DOE awards $159M to twelve new Phase II Genesis science projects

Twelve new Phase II awards fund AI-enabled scientific platforms across fusion, biology, particle physics, materials and research computing.

Summary

DOE announced twelve Phase II Genesis awards totaling $159 million, plus six new Phase I selections. The new Phase II teams include SPARC digital-twin work, RNA structure data, lattice QCD, enzyme design and AI-assisted HPC software. DOE reports fourteen Phase II projects overall and a first-year portfolio of 297 projects.

AI role

Funds development of scientific AI models, digital twins and agents integrated with national laboratory instruments, datasets and supercomputing.

Narrative role

This is a funded implementation step beyond the original executive order and solicitation, materially expanding the national AI-for-science portfolio.

Caveat

Funding and selected projects are institutional inputs; projected discoveries, database growth and instrument-time savings remain targets without measured outcomes.
