DOE and NIH join Biohub in a national biological-data foundation with federal investment

A signed DOE–NIH–Biohub framework connects federal biological data, user facilities, autonomous labs and predictive-cell-model development.

Summary

DOE, NIH and Biohub signed an MOU to build an open biological data foundation for predictive models. DOE reports more than $500 million over five years for cell research, measurement, analytics and computation; Biohub’s complementary $500 million Virtual Biology Initiative was already announced. The framework names JGI, EMSL, OPAL, BRIDGE and LAMBDA resources.

AI role

Coordinates AI-ready biological measurement, exascale modeling and robotic experiments across federal and philanthropic research infrastructure.

Narrative role

The federal investment and cross-agency facility integration add a national implementation layer beyond Biohub’s earlier philanthropic commitment.

Caveat

The MOU reports planned integration, not released datasets, validated virtual cells or research acceleration. Biohub’s $500 million is an existing commitment and must not be counted as newly pledged here.
